JourneyReady Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-10-23 · Last updated: 2026-10-23 · https://journeyready.ca/privacy
JourneyReady is an independent study aid for welder apprentices, published by Jerson Antonio Cruz-Alvarez ("we", "us"). It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training, the Government of Alberta, the Red Seal Program / Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), NAIT, SAIT or any school or government body.
In short: the app works offline and the app itself doesn't send us any personal information. If you email us, join our beta or visit our website, see sections 6, 6A and 7. We have no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking.
1. What the app stores, and where
- Your study progress (lessons completed, quiz and exam attempts, review schedule, streak, flashcard ratings) is stored only on your device. It isn't sent to us or anyone else.
- You can erase it at any time: Settings → Erase all study progress. Deleting the app also removes it.
- Like other app data, your progress may be included in your device backups (for example iCloud Backup or a computer backup) if you have backups turned on. Apple or you control those backups, not us. The app itself doesn't use iCloud sync.
- You can open this policy at any time from Settings → About → Privacy Policy in the app.
2. What we don't do
- No account or sign-up in the app.
- No analytics, advertising or tracking software, and no third-party SDKs (software development kits) that collect data.
- No location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone or health data.
- We don't sell or share your personal information. The only exceptions are the companies that run the services we rely on, which handle it on our behalf: Apple (App Store and TestFlight), and US-based providers that host our website and domain and that receive and store our support email. Section 9 lists them.
3. Purchases
- In-app purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment card or Apple Account details.
- The app checks what you've bought using Apple's on-device purchase records, so unlocks work offline. "Restore Purchases" re-checks with Apple.
- Apple gives us sales reports and purchase receipts that don't include your name, email or payment details.
- Apple's handling of your data is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Refunds are handled by Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com (Apple's refund help).
4. Crash reports and statistics from Apple
If you've turned on Share With App Developers (Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements), Apple may give us crash reports and app-usage statistics. Apple aggregates the statistics or puts them in a form that doesn't personally identify you. We use this information only to find and fix problems. You can turn sharing off at any time in the same setting. The app itself doesn't send anything. Apple's handling of this data is described in Apple's App Analytics & Privacy notice.
5. Links to other websites
Lessons and explanations include "Open source" links to public references (for example manufacturers, standards bodies and government sites). They open in your browser. Those websites have their own privacy practices, and we're not responsible for them.
6. If you contact us
If you email us at support@journeyready.ca (or use the "Send Beta Feedback" email option in TestFlight), we receive your email address, your name if your email shows it, and whatever you include (for example screenshots or your iPhone model). We use it only to reply, fix the problem you report, and improve the app.
- How long we keep it: we keep support emails for 24 months from the date we receive them, then delete them. You can ask us to delete your emails sooner, unless we need to keep one for a legal reason (for example, an open refund dispute or legal claim).
- Where it's stored: emails to support@journeyready.ca pass through a US-based email forwarding service and are stored by a US-based email provider (see section 9).
- Beta thank-you codes: if you were a beta tester, you can email us at support@journeyready.ca to claim a free thank-you code. We use your email only to send the code, and we treat it like any other support email (kept 24 months, then deleted). We won't add you to a mailing list.
- Nothing else is kept off your device. The app doesn't send us any data. Your study progress stays on your iPhone until you erase it in the app (Settings → Erase all study progress) or delete the app.
- Please don't send us real exam questions or any confidential exam material. If you do, we'll delete it.
6A. Our website
Our website (journeyready.ca) has no forms, analytics, ads or tracking cookies, and we don't collect personal information through it. Our domain and website are run by US-based providers (see section 9). Like most web hosts, our host may automatically keep basic server logs (such as IP addresses and the pages requested) for security and to keep the site running. We don't use these logs to identify visitors.
7. Beta testing (TestFlight)
Our beta runs through Apple's TestFlight, using a public link. We don't use a sign-up form.
- What Apple shows us: testers who join through the public link appear to us as anonymous, and Apple doesn't show us their name or email. We do see when the beta was installed, how many sessions there were, and any crashes.
- Crash reports: while you're testing, Apple sends us crash reports automatically. They include technical details such as your iPhone model and iOS version. Apple keeps them available to us for 120 days.
- Feedback: if you send feedback or screenshots through TestFlight, we receive them with device details. If you add your email address to a piece of feedback, we'll see it on that feedback only. If you send feedback by email instead, section 6 applies.
- How we use it: only to find and fix problems and improve the app.
- Deleting it: you can leave the beta at any time in the TestFlight app. You can also ask us to delete your feedback, and we'll remove it from App Store Connect.
- Apple's role: Apple handles TestFlight data under its own privacy policy (apple.com/legal/privacy).
- Age: the beta is for adults 18 and older (see section 8).
8. Children, teens and age limits
- The app: the app's age rating is shown on its App Store page. It has no accounts and doesn't send us any personal information, whatever your age. Your progress stays on your iPhone.
- Teens who contact us: some apprentices are under 18 (for example, in high-school apprenticeship programs). You can still email us for help, and we'll treat your message like anyone else's, keeping it for 24 months and then deleting it (see section 6). If you're under 13, please ask a parent or guardian to contact us for you.
- Beta testers must be 18 or older. Our TestFlight beta is open only to adults 18+. We don't ask for your age or ID; by joining through the beta link you confirm you're 18 or older. If we learn that a beta tester is under 18, we'll remove them from the beta and delete any feedback or emails they sent us through it.
- Parents and guardians: if you think your child under 13 has sent us personal information, contact our Privacy Officer (see "Contact us / Privacy Officer") and we'll delete it.
9. Service providers and storage outside Canada
We use a few US-based service providers to run JourneyReady. They may store or process personal information in the United States, and in some cases in other countries:
| Service provider | What it handles for us | Where it may be stored |
|---|---|---|
| Apple (App Store and TestFlight) | App distribution and purchases. For beta testers, also crash reports, usage counts and any feedback you send through TestFlight | United States and other countries |
| A US-based domain and website hosting provider | Our domain name (DNS) and our website at journeyready.ca, including basic server logs such as IP addresses (see section 6A) | United States and other countries |
| A US-based email forwarding service and a US-based email provider | Receiving emails you send to support@journeyready.ca and storing them in our mailbox, including requests for a beta thank-you code | United States and other countries |
Information stored outside Canada is subject to the laws of those countries, so courts, law-enforcement and national-security authorities there may be able to access it. We use these providers only for the purposes listed above. To get our written information about how we use service providers outside Canada (including the providers' names), or to ask a question about it, contact our Privacy Officer, Jerson Antonio Cruz-Alvarez, at support@journeyready.ca.
10. How we protect information
We keep the little personal information we have (support emails and beta feedback) in accounts protected by strong passwords and two-factor authentication. Only the owner, Jerson Antonio Cruz-Alvarez, has access. We don't keep copies on shared or unsecured devices. If a privacy breach creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we'll notify you and Alberta's Information and Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.
11. Your privacy rights (Alberta and Canada)
- We're based in Alberta, Canada.
- Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) applies to private-sector organizations in Alberta (Alberta.ca). The federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) applies to personal information that crosses provincial or national borders in commercial activity (Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada). If you're outside Alberta, federal law (PIPEDA) may apply to your information instead.
- You may ask what personal information we hold about you (for example, support emails or beta feedback) and ask us to correct or delete it. Contact our Privacy Officer (see "Contact us / Privacy Officer").
- You can withdraw your consent at any time, for example by leaving the TestFlight beta or asking us to stop using or to delete your emails or feedback. We'll tell you if withdrawing affects something you asked for. Contact our Privacy Officer (see "Contact us / Privacy Officer"). We'll reply within 45 days, as Alberta law requires.
12. Changes to this policy
- If we change how the app handles data (for example, adding optional crash reporting), we'll update this policy and the "Last updated" date before releasing the change.
- If a change means the app starts collecting data, we'll update the App Store privacy label too.
- If we make a material change to how we use beta or support information, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, during a beta, mention it in TestFlight's 'What to Test' notes before the change takes effect.
13. Contact us / Privacy Officer
Jerson Antonio Cruz-Alvarez is the Privacy Officer for JourneyReady and is responsible for how we handle personal information.
- Email: support@journeyready.ca (please put "Privacy" in the subject line)
- What you can ask: questions about this policy, including our use of service providers outside Canada (section 9); requests to see, correct or delete your personal information; and withdrawing consent.
- Response time: we'll reply within 45 days.
- If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or, where federal law applies, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
JourneyReady is operated by Jerson Antonio Cruz-Alvarez, a sole proprietor in Edmonton, Alberta.
